Job Summary

The Building and Environment Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all construction projects and existing structures comply with national and local building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards. This role involves conducting inspections, identifying non-compliance issues, and enforcing corrective actions to safeguard public safety and environmental integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct thorough inspections of construction sites, new buildings, and existing structures to ensure adherence to approved plans, specifications, and building codes.

Perform environmental assessments to identify potential hazards, pollution sources, and non-compliance with environmental protection laws.

Issue notices of violation, stop-work orders, and other enforcement actions as required, and follow up to ensure compliance.

Review construction plans and blueprints for compliance with building codes and environmental impact assessments.

Investigate complaints related to building code violations, environmental pollution, and unsafe structures.

Provide technical advice and guidance to contractors, developers, and property owners on building and environmental regulations.

Prepare detailed inspection reports, maintain accurate records, and document all findings and actions.

Collaborate with other regulatory bodies, emergency services, and community stakeholders as necessary.

Stay updated on changes in building codes, environmental laws, and best practices in inspection techniques.

Qualifications

Minimum of a Diploma or Degree in Building Technology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Relevant certification in building inspection or environmental management is highly desirable.

Personal protective equipment will be provided and must be used as required. Regular travel to inspection sites is essential.
