This Code of Ethics serves as a guide for the professional conduct of all social workers within {{company_name}}. Ethical Principles
Social workers are expected to:
* Promote the welfare of clients, respecting their self-determination and cultural values.
* Maintain confidentiality and privacy, only disclosing information with informed consent or when legally mandated.
* Avoid conflicts of interest and dual relationships that could impair professional judgment or exploit clients.
* Act with professional competence and integrity, continuously striving to improve their knowledge and skills.
* Engage in ethical decision-making, considering the ethical implications of their actions and seeking consultation when necessary.
* Advocate for social justice and systemic change to improve the lives of vulnerable populations.
* Respect and value diversity, practicing in a culturally sensitive and responsive manner.
* Uphold the reputation and standards of the social work profession.
Responsibilities to Clients
1. **Commitment to Clients:** Social workers' primary responsibility is to promote the well-being of clients.
2. **Self-Determination:** Social workers respect and promote the right of clients to self-determination and assist clients in their efforts to identify and clarify their goals.
3. **Informed Consent:** Social workers should provide services to clients only in the context of a professional relationship based, when appropriate, on valid informed consent.
4. **Competence:** Social workers should provide services and represent themselves as competent only within the boundaries of their education, training, license, certification, consultation received, supervised experience, or other relevant professional experience.
5. **Privacy and Confidentiality:** Social workers should respect clients’ right to privacy and should not solicit private information from or about clients except for compelling professional reasons.
6. **Conflicts of Interest:** Social workers should be alert to and avoid conflicts of interest that interfere with the exercise of professional discretion and impartial judgment.
7. **Sexual Relationships:** Social workers should under no circumstances engage in sexual activities or sexual contact with current clients, or with former clients within a specified period (e.g., two years) after termination of professional services.
Responsibilities to Colleagues
1. **Respect:** Social workers should treat colleagues with respect and should represent accurately and fairly the qualifications, views, and obligations of colleagues.
2. **Confidentiality:** Social workers should respect the confidentiality of information shared by colleagues in the course of their professional relationships and transactions.
3. **Interdisciplinary Collaboration:** When a team approach is used, social workers should participate in and contribute to the decision-making process.
Responsibilities in Practice Settings
1. **Supervision and Consultation:** Social workers who provide supervision or consultation should do so competently and knowledgeably.
2. **Education and Training:** Social workers who are educators or field instructors for students should provide instruction only within their areas of knowledge and competence.
3. **Client Records:** Social workers should take reasonable steps to ensure that documentation in records is accurate and reflects the services provided.
Responsibilities to the Broader Society
1. **Social Welfare:** Social workers should promote the general welfare of society, from local to global levels, and the development of people, their communities, and their environments.
2. **Public Participation:** Social workers should facilitate public participation in the formulation of social policies and institutions.
Addressing Ethical Dilemmas and Violations
When faced with an ethical dilemma, social workers should utilize a systematic ethical decision-making framework. This may involve consulting with supervisors, colleagues, professional bodies, or legal counsel.
