1. Policy Statement

{{company_name}} is committed to promoting the health and well-being of its employees. This policy outlines the provision for sick pay and sick leave, ensuring that employees have sufficient time to recover from illness or injury while minimizing disruption to business operations. This policy applies to all permanent employees of the company.

2. Eligibility for Sick Pay

Employees are eligible for paid sick leave after completing a probationary period of {{probationary_period_in_months}} months. Employees on temporary contracts or those who have not completed their probationary period may be eligible for unpaid sick leave at the discretion of management, subject to local labor laws.

Sick pay entitlement accrues at a rate of {{sick_days_per_annum}} days per annum, starting from the employee's commencement date. Unused sick leave does not carry over to the next year.

3. Notification Procedures

Employees must notify their direct manager or designated HR representative as soon as reasonably possible, and no later than {{notification_time_hours}} hours before their scheduled start time on the first day of absence. Notification should include the reason for absence and the anticipated duration.

Failure to adhere to notification procedures may result in the absence being treated as unauthorized leave and may affect sick pay entitlement.

4. Medical Certificates

For absences exceeding {{medical_certificate_days_required}} consecutive working days, employees are required to provide a valid medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner. The medical certificate must state the nature of the illness/injury and the expected duration of absence.

The company reserves the right to request a medical certificate for shorter absences if there is a reasonable concern about the employee's health or repeated short-term absences.

5. Sick Pay Entitlement

Eligible employees will receive their full basic salary for approved sick leave up to the annual limit of {{sick_days_per_annum}} days. Sick pay does not include overtime, commissions, or other allowances.

Once an employee has exhausted their paid sick leave entitlement, any further sick leave will be unpaid. In exceptional circumstances, and at the sole discretion of management, additional paid leave may be granted.

6. Return to Work

Upon returning to work after an illness or injury, employees must be fit to resume their normal duties. If there are any concerns about an employee's fitness to work, the company may request a 'fit to work' certificate from a medical practitioner.

For prolonged absences, a return-to-work interview will be conducted by the employee's manager to discuss their well-being and any necessary support or adjustments.

7. Misuse of Sick Leave

Any misuse of sick leave, including fraudulent claims or failure to follow established procedures, will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

The company reserves the right to conduct investigations into sick leave absences where there are reasonable grounds for suspicion.

8. Confidentiality

All information related to an employee's health and sick leave will be treated with strict confidentiality, in accordance with applicable privacy laws and company policy. This information will only be shared with individuals who have a legitimate need to know for administrative or health and safety purposes.

9. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically by {{company_name}} to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with current legislation. Any amendments will be communicated to all employees.
