Job Summary
The Bus Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting passengers on designated transit routes or between cities, adhering to schedules, traffic laws, and company policies. This role requires excellent customer service skills, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to operate various types of buses.
Key Responsibilities
Operate buses safely and courteously on assigned routes, adhering to timetables and schedules.
Ensure the safety of all passengers by following established procedures, including assisting passengers with disabilities, managing unruly passengers, and conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Collect fares, manage tickets, and issue receipts as required, accurately handling cash and other payment methods.
Provide excellent customer service, including answering passenger questions, announcing stops, and providing information regarding routes and schedules.
Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
Communicate effectively with dispatch, operations supervisors, and other team members regarding delays, accidents, mechanical issues, or other incidents.
Complete accurate daily logs, incident reports, and other necessary paperwork.
Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and industry regulations (e.g., National Road Traffic Act, AARTO, etc.).
Perform basic vehicle checks and report any mechanical defects or maintenance needs promptly.
Qualifications
Valid Code {{driver_license_code}} (e.g., EC, C, or EB) Driver’s License with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) for Passengers.
Minimum of {{experience_years}} years of professional bus driving experience preferred.
Clean driving record with no major violations.
Ability to pass a pre-employment medical examination, including drug and alcohol screening.
Excellent knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving techniques.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Geographical knowledge of the operating area (for transit) or intercity routes (for intercity services) is advantageous.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions
This position involves prolonged sitting, driving, and occasional lifting of luggage or assisting passengers.
Work is typically performed in a bus environment, exposed to various weather conditions and traffic situations.
Requires irregular hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and public holidays, based on fluctuating schedules.
May involve exposure to noise, vibration, and fumes.
