Job Summary:
The Utility Cook is responsible for assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen, and supporting the culinary team in various tasks to ensure efficient kitchen operations and high-quality food service. This role requires adherence to all food safety regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
**Food Preparation Assistance:**
- Wash, peel, and chop vegetables and fruits as instructed by senior chefs.
- Portion and prepare ingredients according to recipes and production schedules.
- Assist with basic cooking tasks such as grilling, frying, or boiling, under supervision.
- Prepare simple dishes like salads, sandwiches, and desserts.
**Kitchen Cleanliness and Hygiene:**
- Wash and sterilize dishes, utensils, pots, and pans.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, work surfaces, and storage areas.
- Empty trash cans and maintain a clean waste disposal area.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including HACCP principles.
**Stock Management:**
- Receive and store deliveries, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) and labelling.
- Monitor food supplies and report shortages to the supervisor.
- Assist with inventory counts as required.
**General Support:**
- Assist chefs during service periods by retrieving ingredients and expediting orders.
- Maintain an organised and tidy workstation.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
**Education:**
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Culinary training or certification from a recognised institution is an advantage.
**Experience:**
- 1-2 years of experience in a similar kitchen role, preferably in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven understanding of basic cooking techniques and kitchen equipment.
**Skills:**
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to hygiene.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in a hot environment.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy items (up to {{weight_kg}} kg).
